Accessing Your IST Storage Space

About storage space:

  • Every IST student is allocated a 200MB of storage space for personal usage.
  • Every IST student is also allocated a 75MB of web space for personal webpages. Click here for more details.
  • An additional 50MB is allocated for each user's Windows roaming profile.
  • Your storage space is currently located on a Distrubuted File System share that is located in our data center within the IST building.
  • As an additional service, shared storage space will also be made available to groups on request.

How to access personal storage from an IST classroom Windows machine:

  1. Log on using your PSU ID and password.
  2. Verify that you are logging on to the DCE domain.
  3. Your “My Documents” folder that is presented in the start menu points to your IST file storage space.
  4. Right Clicking on the “My Documents” icon in the Start Menu will reveal the UNC path of your file storage.

Two methods to access shared storage space for group usage from an IST classroom Windows machine:

  • Method 1: Mapping a network drive is the most convenient solution to access frequently used network folders
    1. Click on the Start Button.
    2. Right Click on “My Computer” and select Map Network Drive.
    3. Select a Drive Letter from the dropdown menu. It is not recommended to select a drive letter lower than G, as this can lead to drive letter conflicts.
    4. In the Folder dialog box, enter the full UNC path to the share: \\3c.ist.local\teams\SHARE.
  • Method 2: Accessing share with Windows Explorer:
Enter the full UNC path (\\3c.ist.local\teams\SHARE) in the address bar on a Windows Explorer window or Internet Explorer.

How to access personal storage from outside of the IST building — VLABS:
